Welcome to the 2011 Tour de Edina website where we believe in and promote our mission:
Active Lifestyle + Healthy Eating = Life Balance.

4-year-old Josh pedaled the entire 5 miles on his
flashy bicycle! There were lots of kids pedaling
up the hills on 70th Street. Impressive!
Tour de Edina is a do.town event … so get moving!
A GREAT DAY:
Yesterday, October 9, 2011, was the first ever Tour de Edina. The weather was perfect, about 70 degrees and sunny with a little breeze. This photo shows cyclists ready to start the 2011 Tour de Edina. Thank you cyclists, volunteers and committee members.
THANK YOU:
Special thanks to Thad (Freewheel Bike Shop) for setting up shop and handling the last minute tire pumping, etc., to get cyclists ready. Thanks for help and in-kind donations from Rich Pehrson (tent), Paul Nelson (Shaw Lundquist) for supports to hold up the tent. John Sorteberg (Commercial Furniture) for tables & chairs. General Mills for granola bars. Pepsi for bottled water.
A special thanks to volunteers who worked the event in registration, as corner marshals and clean up. It was fun to hear the cheering, even a cow bell, along the route. It was like the Tour de France! Thank you cyclists and volunteers for your non-perishable grocery donations. They go to VEAP (www.veapvolunteers.org) in Bloomington. This agency serves Edina, Bloomington, Richfield and South Minneapolis.
TWO GOALS OF THE TOUR de EDINA:
1) promote healthy lifestyle through cycling and
2) promote bicycle transportation throughout Edina.
A healthy community? Almost daily, we read something about health risks that many of us face. Some of those risks we bring on ourselves, other are thrust upon us by ggenetics or the environment. The Tour de Edina provides a way to get out and be active … at your own pace and with those you love … and enjoy the crisp air and colors of autumn in Minnesota.
The 2011 Tour de Edina, a 5-mile loop in the Southwest quadrant of Edina, beginning and ending at Courtney Fields parking lot. In the upcoming years (maybe as soon as 2012), we’ll add additional 5-mile routes in the Northwest, Northeast and Southeast quadrants of Edina to produce a 20+ mile Tour de Edina route throughout our city.
RULES OF THE RIDE:
All riders must wear helmets. Helmets will be available for a small charge at registration.
Ride in the bike lane (marked or unmarked) on the right side of the road.
Tour de Edina cyclists obey traffic signs.
Tandems, tag-alongs are welcome.
No pets, please.
EXHIBITS AND DISPLAYS:
2011 exhibitors included do.town, VEAP, Feed My Starving Children, Edina Morningside Rotary Foundation, Bike Edina Task Force, Moore Chiropractic, Vote YES for Edina, and more.
BENEFIT OUR COMMUNITY LOCALLY, REGIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY:
Tour proceeds benefit hunger relief organizations that address the needs of hungry people locally, regionally and internationally. If we raise sufficient proceeds to do so, we will also use some of the Tour de Edina proceeds to purchase and install bike racks at locations throughout Edina. The VEAP exhibit will include containers for non-perishable donations at the bike ride. Cash donations are welcome as well.
DONATIONS ARE WELCOME!
To donate, send your check to Tour de Edina, 6901 Paiute Drive, Edina MN 55439. Please make your check payable to EMRC Foundation for Tour de Edina. Online donation link coming soon.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT?
We attempted to set a new record for the longest bike parade in 2009. More than 1,100 bicyclists joined our ride through Rosland Park. In the future, the Tour de Edina may get large enough to set a record. And if it does, that means that lots of people have discovered how much they enjoy bicycling for pleasure, healthy lifestyle and for transportation. That would be amazing! They only way we’ll do this is if you ride with us!
Tour organizers include Edina Park & Recreation, Edina Police Department, Bike Edina Task Force, Edina Morningside Rotary Club, Edina Public Schools, Allina Hospitals and Clinics and members of the Edina community.
